How to Get Into U of T From Bangladesh: HSC, OUAC 105, Video

The University of Toronto lists the Higher Secondary Certificate as the credential it wants from Bangladesh, publishes no GPA cut-off for it, and reads your SSC and Class 11 marks in spring with the HSC as a condition. On top of the grades: an English test, because the HSC does not waive it, a January 15, 2027 application on OUAC 105 for Fall 2027 entry, and, for Rotman Commerce and Engineering, a timed video you record alone in your room.

What U of T looks at from a Bangladeshi applicant

U of T’s high school requirements by country page gives Bangladesh a single line: Higher Secondary Certificate. No GPA, no percentage. The general rules on its international high school requirements page do the rest: conditional offers are made “based on your previous year’s grades and your in-term/mid-term results, if available”, prerequisites “must be presented at the senior/Grade 12 equivalent level”, and “all applicants are required to present a senior/Grade 12 English course for admission consideration”.

In Dhaka terms: “previous year’s grades” is your SSC and Class 11 year-final; “in-term results” are the pre-test marks your college has issued by February. The HSC does not exist when U of T decides, so the offer is conditional on it. HSC English meets the Grade 12 English prerequisite, but that is not proof of proficiency; the test is separate.

A-level students are read on the British-patterned line: three different A level or International A level academic subjects plus five different IGCSE, GCSE or O-level academic subjects. U of T publishes no HSC GPA and no A-level grades on that page; Engineering’s own page says B or higher is recommended and a C or below in any prerequisite is not considered.

Prerequisites by program

Program Senior-level prerequisites U of T lists HSC group that fits
EngineeringMathematics (including Calculus), Physics, Chemistry, English, per the Engineering pageScience group with Higher Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry
Rotman CommerceEnglish and senior mathematics; confirm the exact course on the program pageScience group, or Business Studies only if your college offered Higher Mathematics
Computer Science, Mathematical and Physical SciencesEnglish and senior mathematics; confirm on the program pageScience group
Life SciencesEnglish and senior mathematics, plus the science the program listsScience group
Humanities, Social SciencesEnglishAny group

The Engineering row is quoted from U of T Engineering’s out-of-country applicants page, which also says A-level students not taking AS or A-level Chemistry must present O-level Chemistry; the other rows follow U of T’s general rule that prerequisites are program-specific and senior level, so confirm each on its program page. The HSC mismatch to watch: Business Studies students often finish without Higher Mathematics, and a Rotman or CS file without it is incomplete no matter the GPA.

English: the HSC does not waive it, O-level English does

U of T’s English language requirements exempt you after four or more years of full-time study in an English school in a country where English is the dominant language. Bangladesh is not, and HSC English is not on the list. What is: GCSE, IGCSE or GCE Ordinary Level English at grade B (6), or A Level English at grade C, and IB English at 4. So an English-medium student with a B in O-level English Language is exempt at U of T; an HSC student writes a test.

  • IELTS Academic 6.5 overall, no band below 6.0
  • TOEFL iBT: for tests after January 21, 2026, overall 4.5 on the new scale with Writing 4.5 and Speaking 4.0; for earlier tests, 89 with Speaking and Writing 22 each

Scores must arrive by the document deadline in your portal: February 1, 2027 for Arts and Science, January 15, 2027 for Engineering. Sit the test in autumn 2026.

How and when to apply for Fall 2027 entry

You apply through OUAC 105, the Ontario application for anyone not in an Ontario high school, or through the U of T International Application. The OUAC 105 walkthrough on this site is written for BC students but the form is the same one you will fill in from Dhaka. From U of T’s dates and deadlines page for 2027: the application deadline for every program is January 15, 2027, with November 7, 2026 recommended for early consideration; documents by December 1, 2026 if you applied early, otherwise January 15, 2027 for Engineering and February 1, 2027 for Arts and Science, UTM, UTSC and the rest; the Engineering Online Student Profile by January 15, 2027; the Rotman Commerce supplemental by February 1, 2027; a February 1 supplemental deadline also listed for Arts and Science Computer Science and for UTSC. Decisions run from January to late May. Confirm each date on the page before you plan around it.

After the offer, U of T’s international applicant timeline is explicit: accept, pay the admission deposit on ACORN, and only then does the university issue the Provincial Attestation Letter.

The part you control: the supplemental

Most of U of T has none. Arts and Science Humanities, Social Sciences and Life Sciences admit on grades, so the file is the transcript and the test score. Two big programs are different.

Rotman Commerce requires every applicant to complete a supplemental of “short written and video responses” on the Kira Talent platform, with a $52 fee paid on OUAC, early consideration by December 1, 2026 and a final deadline of February 1, 2027 (11:59 PM EST), per Rotman’s supplemental page. Rotman does not publish the questions; the Rotman Commerce supplemental application guide describes the format as applicants have met it and gives practice questions written to it.

Engineering requires the Online Student Profile through the Engineering Applicant Portal: three timed video responses, a program ranking, an activities list with supervisor references and an optional statement, mandatory for everyone, due January 15, 2027, per U of T Engineering’s supplemental page. The financial-information section of the same form is the application for the U of T Engineering International Scholarships. The Engineering Online Student Profile guide covers what the timed video has asked.

What those videos test is not your IELTS band but whether you can build a spoken answer in English, alone, with a clock running. AcceptMe does the thing itself: a fresh question, 30 seconds to think, 90 seconds to answer on camera, then a transcript with the coach’s notes on where the answer had structure and where it had filler.

Money

For 2025-26 the Arts and Science international fee schedule shows a first-year program fee of $63,570.00, plus $2,040.90 in incidental, system-access and ancillary fees and $792.00 for UHIP, a total of $66,402.90; Rotman Commerce and Computer Science pay that in first year and a higher deregulated fee from year two. Engineering’s finances page lists 2025-26 international tuition of $70,060, incidental fees of $2,203.84, UHIP of $792, residence and meals from $13,645 to $37,848 and books from $1,500. The 2027-28 schedule will be higher. For the study permit IRCC requires $23,448 in living funds for a single applicant outside Quebec on applications from September 1, 2026, on top of first-year tuition and travel.

The full-cost award is the Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship: tuition, books, incidental fees and full residence for four years, around 37 scholars a year, one nominee per school. For September 2027 entry the school nomination is due October 9, 2026, the admission application October 16, 2026, and the scholarship application November 6, 2026, and U of T prohibits generative AI in the application. Ask the principal in September; nobody else can nominate you. Engineering’s own international scholarships go to a maximum of $35,000 a year for four years through the profile’s financial section by January 15.

The study permit

Ontario issues the PAL through the university after your deposit; IRCC wants it filed with the permit application. Under the 2026 cap Ontario holds 104,780 application spaces, and a PAL from one cap year cannot be used in the next. Bangladesh was never in the Student Direct Stream, so its November 2024 closure did not touch you, and in the first half of 2025 ICEF’s summary of IRCC data put approvals for new study permits near 30%; IRCC publishes no Bangladesh-specific rate. Apply the week the deposit clears, with six months of statements, a sponsor letter stating relationship and income, and U of T’s fee estimate.

Paying from Bangladesh: open a student file at your bank with the admission letter and U of T’s cost estimate; since August 2026 Bangladesh Bank also allows tuition payment by designated card, reported by The Daily Star. If the bank asks for attested certificates, Ministry of Foreign Affairs attestation runs online through MyGov, as UNB explains; U of T itself wants official transcripts, not attestation.

A worked video answer

Sadia, HSC Science group, Dhaka Board, SSC GPA 5.00, applying to Rotman Commerce. A practice question written to the format, not Rotman’s: “Tell us about a time you had to convince people who disagreed with you.” 30 seconds of prep, 90 seconds to answer.

Sample answer, about 85 seconds

In Class 11 I was treasurer of our college science club, with about twelve thousand taka left from the fair. Most of the committee wanted to spend it on a farewell dinner. I wanted to buy a second microscope, because the one we had was shared by forty members and the juniors never got a turn.

I lost the first vote. So instead of arguing again, I brought the sign-up sheet to the next meeting and showed that in two months only nine people had actually used the microscope, all seniors. Then I proposed a split: eight thousand for the microscope, four thousand for a smaller farewell. That passed. The microscope arrived in March, and the juniors now book it on a rota I set up.

What I took from it is that people rarely change their mind because you are louder. They change it when you show them something they had not counted, and leave them a way to say yes without losing.

Timing note: fifteen seconds of stakes, fifty seconds carrying a decision and a number, twenty seconds to stop. Ending at 85 with a finished sentence beats being cut at 90 mid-word. The video answer length guide explains the arithmetic.

Mistakes applicants from Bangladesh make

  • Sitting the HSC first. OUAC 105 closes January 15, 2027. U of T reads the SSC and Class 11 and conditions the offer on the HSC.
  • Counting HSC English as proficiency. It meets the Grade 12 English prerequisite; it is not on the exemption list. Only O-level or A-level English is.
  • Applying to Rotman or CS without Higher Mathematics. Calculus-level math is a prerequisite, and a Business Studies transcript often lacks it.
  • Missing the Engineering profile date. January 15, 2027, same day as the application, and it is mandatory.
  • Reading a script on the video. Reviewers can hear it.
  • Waiting for the Pearson nomination to come to you. The school nominates by October 9, 2026; ask in September.

Where to go next

The same transcript goes to three cities: the UBC admission guide for Bangladeshi applicants covers the HSC subject lines and the Personal Profile every UBC applicant writes, and the McGill admission guide for Bangladeshi applicants explains a grades-only decision and the CAQ. For every other country’s credential and deadline at the three schools, the by-country guide to Canadian university admissions for international applicants is the index. If your first practice run comes out as a list of achievements, the STAR method interview examples give the shape a ninety-second answer needs. Then get on camera with AcceptMe and run the Rotman and Engineering formats until the clock is your friend.
