Ontario Programs With No Supplementary Application

Most lists of the “best” Ontario programs with no supp app are half right. Queen’s Engineering really is grades-only. Waterloo AFM is, as of this cycle. U of T Computer Science is not, and neither is Laurier BBA in any way that matters. This is the verified table for Fall 2027 entry: which Ontario programs admit on your top 6 alone, which want a form, a video or Casper, and how to build a list that mixes both without betting your year on one supplementary application.

What “no supp app” buys you, and what it doesn’t

A program with no supplementary application admits on your admission average: the top 6 grade 12 U/M courses including the prerequisites, with grade 11 marks and midterms used for early rounds. Nobody reads an essay. Nobody watches a video. Your part-time job and your ECs don’t count, which is a relief if you have none and a loss if you have good ones. It also means the cut-off is the whole story, and for the popular programs below the cut-off is not low: Queen’s Engineering, Western Medical Sciences and Waterloo AFM all admit on grades and all publish admission ranges in the high 80s or above. No supp app means no second chance to explain a 78 in Advanced Functions.

Also read the word “optional” carefully in the table. Laurier BBA’s Applicant Background Summary is optional in the sense that the portal lets you skip it. It is the only way a borderline file gets a second look, and the school tells you to fill it in. That is closer to “expected” than “optional.”

The table

Checked on each university’s official admissions page for Fall 2027 entry at the time of writing. Programs are grouped by school. “None” means the school lists no supplementary requirement for Ontario high school applicants; it does not mean the program is easy to get into.

Program Supp app Admission is based on
Waterloo (AIF page)
Engineering (all programs) Required: AIF + video interview Grades, AIF, video; missing either means denial.
Mathematics, Computer Science, CFM Required: AIF (written) Grades plus AIF; Euclid and CCC contests help.
Accounting and Financial Management, SFM None this cycle “Based solely on grades”; the SAFAA interview is not running.
Science, Health, Arts, Environment None (AIF not required) Grades.
University of Toronto (supplemental applications page)
Engineering (St. George) Required: Online Student Profile (timed write + two videos) Grades plus profile; mandatory.
Rotman Commerce Required: Kira written + video, $52 Grades plus supplemental.
Computer Science (St. George and UTM) Required: written supplemental, 3 of 4 questions at 250 words Grades plus the written answers; U of T says the example matters less than how you responded.

Life Sciences, Kinesiology, Science, Social Sciences, Humanities None Grades. Life Sci is where most Health Sci applicants also apply.
Queen’s (supplementary application page)
Commerce; Health Sciences; Nursing Required: Kira, one written + one video Grades plus supp app above the minimum average. Commerce, Health Sci.
Engineering (Smith Engineering) None Grades. Queen’s lists Engineering under “not required.”

Ivey HBA (AEO) Required: essays, references, five Kira videos Ivey describes a 50/50 academics and leadership split.
Engineering Casper, all applicants Grades plus Casper; no offer until the result arrives.
Nursing (direct entry) Casper; confirm on the nursing page Grades plus Casper.
Medical Sciences, Science, BMOS, Social Science, Health Sciences None Grades. Med Sci and BMOS are the large grades-only routes; BMOS is also the standard path to HBA in second year.
Toronto Metropolitan
Business Management, Engineering, Computer Science, Nursing None Grades (“grades-only” in TMU’s own wording).
Grades-plus programs (creative, media, Midwifery, Architecture) Required: statements, portfolio, audition or interview Grades plus the non-academic piece.
York
Schulich BBA / iBBA Required: Leadership Profile, four Kira videos, timed write, $50 Grades plus supp app.
Lassonde Engineering; Computer Science; Science; Health None listed Grades; York’s engineering page gives a mid-80s target and no supplementary step. Confirm on the program page.
Laurier (dates page)
BBA (and BBA double degrees) Optional: Applicant Background Summary, effectively expected Grades; the ABS is what gets a near-cut-off file read.
Computer Science, Science, Arts Optional ABS Grades.
Guelph (Student Profile Form)
Engineering, Bio-Medical Science, Computer Science, Commerce, Science, Arts Optional: Student Profile Form Grades. The SPF is read only if your May average lands within a discretionary band (never more than 5%) below the cut-off.
Ottawa
Telfer Commerce, Engineering, Computer Science, Science, Health Sciences None listed Grades. uOttawa says a few competitive programs “may” add one; none of these did at the time of writing. Confirm on the admissions page.
Carleton (additional requirements page)
Engineering, Computer Science, Sprott Commerce and International Business, Health Sciences None Grades. Carleton lists only six programs with extra material: Architecture, Industrial Design, Interactive Multimedia, Music, Nursing, Social Work.

The honest reading of the table

Three patterns matter more than any single row.

Business is where supp apps live. Every flagship business program in the province, Ivey, Rotman, Queen’s, Schulich, has one, and Laurier’s is optional only on paper. The grades-only business routes are Waterloo AFM (this cycle), Western BMOS, TMU Business Management, McMaster Commerce, Telfer and Sprott. Those are good programs, and the first three are also the standard on-ramps to a second-year business school application.

Engineering splits down the middle. Waterloo, U of T and McMaster want a form and a video; Western wants Casper; Queen’s, York, Guelph, TMU, Ottawa and Carleton want your marks. If your question is “Eng with no ECs?”, you have six good grades-only options and should apply to at least two of them.

Health and life sciences are grades-only almost everywhere except the two famous ones. McMaster Health Sci and Queen’s Health Sci run supp apps. Life Sci at McMaster, U of T, Western Med Sci, Queen’s Life Sci and Waterloo Health do not. Nursing is the exception in the other direction: Casper at McMaster and Western, a Kira supp app at Queen’s, grades at TMU.

Building a list that mixes both

The OUAC base fee covers three choices and each extra one costs about $51, so a list of five to seven is normal. Here is a way to build it that doesn’t leave your year hanging on one Kira session.

  1. Two grades-only programs you would actually attend, one where your current average clears last year’s cut-off by a few points and one where it clears comfortably. These are the floor. Pick them first, not last, and pick them by looking at the program and the city, not by asking which is “best.”
  2. One to three supp-app programs, chosen so the supp apps overlap. Ivey, Rotman, Queen’s Commerce and Schulich all want the same leadership and teamwork stories on Kira. Waterloo, U of T and McMaster Engineering all want an initiative story and a technical interest story. Three programs with one shared story bank is a plan; three programs with three unrelated formats is a February you will not enjoy.
  3. Budget the fees before you add the choices. Rotman $52, McMaster Engineering $50, Schulich $50, Casper’s test fee. Four supp-app programs can add $200 to the OUAC bill.
  4. Put the deadlines on one page and notice whether the supp apps stack in the same week. Schulich, Rotman, Waterloo Engineering and McMaster Arts & Science all land on February 1; the deadlines calendar shows the pile-up.
  5. Decide on “optional” now. If Laurier BBA or Guelph is on the list, you are filling in the form. Decide it in October so it doesn’t become a January afterthought.
A realistic test for the list: if every supp-app program said no, would you be fine with what is left? If the answer is yes, the supp apps become something you can do well because you are not terrified of them. That is not a small effect on the answers.

The next thing to do

If you have decided on a mixed list and want to know how much weight the supp-app programs actually put on the supp app, the how-much-does-it-matter guide goes through what each school publishes about weighting and where your top 6 stops mattering. If the reason you searched for “no supp app” is that your EC list is empty, the no-ECs guide shows how a part-time job and a family responsibility become the two best answers on a form. If the one supp app you kept is on Kira, the Kira Talent interview practice guide explains what the practice mode hides from you. If you are admitting on grades alone, how your top 6 is calculated explains which courses count, how repeats are treated and why the number differs by university. Then use your two free runs: AcceptMe’s custom interviews draw an unseen question for the program you kept, run it on that program’s clock, and show you the transcript with the coach’s notes, so you know before the fee is paid whether that one supp app is worth keeping.
