Admissions Consultants in Canada by City: Who Sells What
Every city in Canada has a version of the same business: a former counsellor or admissions officer who will sit with your family by the hour and plan the application. Most do not publish a price, and almost none of them rehearse the one part of the application that is timed and recorded. We checked more than forty of them, city by city, in September 2026. This page says who they are, what they sell, what the public prices are, and which ones actually offer interview practice, so you can pick the right person for the judgement and use AcceptMe for the reps.
How to read this page
A consultant sells judgement: which programs, which courses, how to sequence a complicated application, whether an essay topic is a mistake. That is worth paying for, and the tables below are generous about who does it well. What none of them can sell is repetitions. The Sauder, Ivey, Queen’s Commerce, Waterloo and Schulich video interviews give you a short prep window and a hard answer clock in front of a camera that does not react, and the skill they test is built by doing exactly that many times with feedback each time. AcceptMe is the rehearsal room: unlimited timed on-camera runs with a transcript and the coach’s notes, an essay coach that marks up every sentence, and a Story Bank, for C$49 a month with a free tier and no card. The studies on our research page are the reason we built it that way: unguided practice changed nothing, tips changed nothing, and the group that improved was the one that practiced with an automated interviewer and then read feedback on its own recording.
Every fact below was read on the company’s own site or in the named publication on the date shown in its review. “Not published” means exactly that: you learn the price on a call. Firms with a full review have a link; the rest get one line so you know they exist and what they do.
Vancouver and British Columbia
BC has the most established consultancies in the country and none of them mentions the Sauder video or the UBC personal profile on its site. Victoria and Kelowna turned up no independent consultant for domestic applicants at all.
| Firm | What they sell | Published price | Interview practice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Options Solutions, West Vancouver, since 2003 | Hourly consulting, Canada, US and UK; group workshops | Hourly rate on enquiry; workshops $150 to $350 | $225 three-hour group video-interview workshop |
| KEY Education, Vancouver, since 2011 | Preschool to university planning; essays; a university team with a former Harvard admissions officer | Not published; free assessment | “Interview coaching” listed, no format detail |

If you are in BC, the format you are most likely facing is the Sauder personal profile video or the UBC personal profile itself. Both have a free guide with practice questions: Sauder and the UBC personal profile.
Calgary, Edmonton and the prairies
Outside Youthfully, which is the large Calgary company, the prairie market is solo practitioners, mostly retired school counsellors, and several of them do the rare thing of publishing a rate. None of them mentions a video interview, a supplementary application or a timed written answer.
| Firm | What they sell | Published price | Interview practice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Youthfully, Calgary | One-to-one coaching packages for the whole application | Not published; reported from $1,500 | AI simulator bundled with coaching only |
| KVP Educational Consulting, Calgary | Solo HECA and NACAC consultant, US-first; list building, essays, testing strategy | Packages or hourly in three-hour blocks, not published; a $197 self-paced essay course | “College interview coaching” listed, no format detail |
| Upperhand Counselling, Calgary | Two veteran teacher-counsellors; Alberta course planning, diploma requirements, Canadian post-secondary choice | $150 intake session, then $100 an hour | None |
| LAUNCH U, Cochrane and Calgary | A 25-year Rocky View high-school counsellor and a career-development practitioner; program research, applications, scholarships | $125 an hour | None |
| Cerebration Consulting, Calgary | Solo, part-time; planning from elementary to the Canadian admissions process | Not published; free 30-minute consultation | None |
| Edmasters Education, Calgary and Langdon | Tutoring centre with a three-session career and post-secondary planning package | Not published | None |
| Cogan Educational Consulting, Winnipeg | Solo, 28 years as an educator; course selection, applications, scholarships | Not published; free 30-minute consultation | None |
| Taylored Learning Co., Regina | Virtual university-readiness workshops for Grade 11 and 12, including a scholarship-writing lab | $40 to $200 per workshop | None |
The Calgary Herald asked in 2022 whether a university-bound teen needs a consultant and quoted prairie rates of $150 to $250 an hour, with one or two meetings typical. That is the honest shape of the market: a couple of hours of planning, which several of these people do well, and no rehearsal at all.
Toronto and the GTA
The biggest market and the only one where firms name the Canadian formats. Three of them sell some form of video-interview preparation, and one publishes a session price.
| Firm | What they sell | Published price | Interview practice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Astroff Consultants, North York, since 2007 | Med, law, dental and MBA admissions first; undergraduate planning and essays too | Mock interviews $275 a session, bundles $775 to $1,675; Casper courses $197 to $997 | Yes, in MMI, panel and “online video” formats |
| VerveSmith, downtown Toronto | A former U of T and Western admissions officer, IECA and HECA; Grade 9 to 12 counselling and applications | Not on the site; the Globe and Mail reported hourly sessions or a flat $5,500 in May 2026 | Mock interviews inside the application service |

For the formats themselves, the Ontario supplementary applications hub indexes a free guide for every program with a written or video component, and the Ivey AEO video guide is the one most GTA readers want first.
Ontario outside the GTA
Ottawa, Hamilton, London, Waterloo, Kingston and Windsor have almost no established consultant for domestic applicants; the local search results are international-student recruiters and tutoring centres. The exceptions are worth knowing about.
| Firm | What they sell | Published price | Interview practice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Barclay Educational Services, Hamilton, since 2007 | Interest testing and academic planning for Grade 10 and 11; UK partner universities | Not published | Generic mock interviews |
| Stellar Advisers, Kingston | Peer advice from current Queen’s, McGill, Waterloo and Western students; a large free supplementary guide | $5 or $20 a month, plus a custom tier | None |
| Commerce Edge, Kingston | An eight-week Queen’s Commerce programme run by current students; first cohort in 2026 | Not published; 70 percent of the fee is payable only on admission | Kira mock sessions with recorded feedback |
| MYLS Interview, Ontario (online) | Self-serve AI mock video interview across hundreds of programs | US$55 or US$135 a month | Yes, video only |
| Horizon Education Consulting, Ottawa | Student advocacy and special-needs consulting, often quoted in the press; not an admissions coach | Not published | None |
| Study Junction, London | Admissions guidance aimed mainly at international students | Not published | Generic interview preparation |
Montreal and Quebec
Quebec is a different market. Students apply to medicine, pharmacy and dentistry straight from CEGEP, so the firms that sell interview practice sell Casper and the MEM, the French multiple mini-interview, which AcceptMe does not cover. The two Westmount boutiques for anglophone families do US admissions and school placement.
- Collegiate Consulting, Westmount, since 2013: a solo IECA associate and former US alumni-admissions director; US colleges only; hourly, rate not published; mock interviews for US alumni interviews.
- SchoolAdvice, Westmount, since 2007: private-school placement, guardianship and course planning; published family subscription from $750 for five hours, consulting “averages about $3,000”; no interview or essay coaching.
- Accès Carrière, downtown Montreal, since 2017: Casper and MEM coaching with in-person and online simulations for Quebec health programs; prices not published; claims 81 percent first-choice admission with no methodology.
- BrissonLegris, Montreal, since 1968: licensed guidance counsellors; a five-session Casper and MEM programme; prices not published.
- Coaching-Entrevue: a former Université de Montréal admissions officer; Casper and MEM coaching at a published $395 per 90-minute session.
If your Quebec application is to an English-Canadian or US program with a video or written component, the rest of this page applies. If it is a MEM, hire one of the people above.
Atlantic Canada
Halifax, Fredericton, Moncton, St. John’s and Charlottetown returned no independent consultant serving domestic high-school applicants. The listings under “educational consultant” in Halifax are policy researchers, immigration and study-abroad agents, and a driving school. Blue Dolphin Training, a health-interview coach who works remotely with applicants across the country, covers Casper and the MMI for nursing applicants at an unpublished hourly rate. For everything else, an Atlantic student is choosing between a national firm on Zoom and a self-serve coach, which is the comparison the rest of this page makes.
National and online firms
- BeMo Academic Consulting: the largest brand, med and dental first, a Kira preparation guide and simulator, prices set per student and not published, a money-back guarantee whose terms are theirs to publish.
- Youthfully and MYLS own the search results for every Canadian format name; both have a full review.
- AdmissionPrep and Admissions Avenue work nationally over video; see the GTA table.
What the whole map says
Across every region, three things repeat. Almost nobody publishes a price, and the ones who do (Upperhand, LAUNCH U, Astroff, Prepskills, MedApplications, Stellar, Coaching-Entrevue) are worth reading first for that reason alone. Interview practice, where it exists, is a scheduled mock with a person, which is a different exercise from a camera that does not nod. And the one thing every consultant is right about is that judgement matters: which programs, which courses, which story. Buy an hour or two of that from the best person near you, and spend the season doing reps. Our guide to admissions consultant costs in Canada puts the national numbers in one table, the four-way admissions coaching comparison covers the companies most families shortlist, and is a consultant worth it is the decision itself. The founder’s account of why we built AcceptMe is the argument for reps in full. When you are ready, the free tier gives you two timed on-camera runs tonight, no card and no call.
